SARWAR COURTING REFORM UK OUT OF DESPERATION

SNP MSP Clare Adamson has said Anas Sarwar courting Reform UK is a sign of “desperation” as Labour fail to deliver on its promises.

The Scottish Labour leader refused to rule out relying on votes from Reform MSPs, should they win seats, after the 2026 Holyrood election.

Ms Adamson, MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw, has challenged Mr Sarwar to clarify which Reform UK policies he is ‘open to’.

Reform UK supports privatisation of the NHS, backing Brexit despite its economic damage, tax cuts for the wealthy, and abolishing devolution.

Meanwhile, Scottish Labour has refused to back the SNP’s Budget which provides record funding for our NHS, scraps the two-child cap and reverses Labour’s Winter Fuel Payment cut.Ms Adamson said:

“Labour’s support has imploded because they have gone back on promise after promise.

“Their pre-election talk was all about change.  But it was just talk and people see through it.  Labour has kept a raft of Tory policies which are driving poverty, despite campaigning against these policies in opposition.

“They kept the bedroom tax and the two-child cap.  They have scrapped the universal winter fuel payment.  And they have turned their back on the WASPI women after standing alongside them.

“The SNP already mitigates the bedroom tax in Scotland.  We are going to mitigate the two-child cap.  We will reinstate a universal winter fuel payment.  We delivered the unique Scottish Child Payment.  And we stand by the WASPI women.

“People are facing tough times just now.  That is when populist politics gains support because the likes of Farage seek to exploit difficult periods for their own ends.

“Let’s be clear, Nigel Farage has always been about helping himself and his wealthy pals at the expense of ordinary people.  His toxic values are a threat to communities across Scotland.

“It is alarming that Anas Sarwar is opening the door to those values rather than challenging them head on.  Labour is not delivering, and he is showing his desperation.

“The SNP, under John Swinney’s leadership, will always stand up for Scotland’s interests, and fight your corner every step of the way.”
