ADAMSON: SNP VALUES SMALL BUSINESSES IN MOTHERWELL AND WISHAW
SNP MSP Clare Adamson has welcomed the news that 6,410 properties in North Lanarkshire received £26.7 million worth of non-domestic rates relief in 2024, thanks to SNP policies.
Scottish Government schemes, like the Small Business Bonus Scheme, can offer eligible organisations up to 100% rates relief - with 5,270 organisations in North Lanarkshire being lifted out of paying non-domestic rates all together.
Ms Adamson said the figures show the value that the SNP Scottish Government places on supporting small business and organisations in her constituency.
The MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw said:
“SNP policies are supporting businesses right here in Motherwell and Wishaw.
“Across North Lanarkshire, the latest figures show that over 6,000 organisations have benefitted from £26.7 million in rates relief. And over 5,000 organisations are exempt entirely providing crucial support for small businesses across Lanarkshire.
“Businesses are struggling with increasing costs. Brexit has compounded the economic pressure. And the Labour UK Government’s inaction on energy prices on top of their impending hike to employer national insurance is causing huge problems for Scottish business.
"Scotland's rates relief policies are the most generous anywhere in the UK, with over 95% of non-domestic properties in Scotland expected to pay less property tax than elsewhere in the UK, and over 100,000 taken out of paying rates altogether in 2025-26.
“In challenging times, the substantial level of rates relief offered in Scotland will be a lifeline for many small businesses and organisations in Motherwell and Wishaw. This shows the value that the SNP places on supporting local business."
