SNP MSP Clare Adamson has hailed the Scottish Government’s record investment in our NHS.
The Scottish Budget, which was approved this week, delivers a £1.7 billion investment in NHS Lanarkshire
The Budget – which was supported by all parties except Labour and the Tories – increases funding for health and social care across Scotland to a record £21 billion, providing crucial support for frontline services.
By backing the Budget, Parliament has ensured a record increase of nearly £2 billion for NHS boards – with an increase in funding of £224 million for NHS Lanarkshire.
An additional £200 million will reduce waiting lists and see over 150,000 extra patients across Scotland treated as a result.
In government, the SNP is delivering. The Scottish Government promised 64,000 additional NHS procedures and appointments by the end of March. This target was exceeded by delivering 75,500 by the end of January. Since taking office, Scotland’s NHS has also grown by over 33,000 extra doctors, nurses, and staff—an increase of over 26%.
Ms Adamson, MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw said:
“The record levels of funding delivered by the SNP Scottish Government will make a real difference to people in relying on frontline services in Lanarkshire.
“It has been a very tough winter with a surge in respiratory illnesses causing huge pressures on services. We know people have struggled because of these pressures.
“This significant investment is about ensuring that people get the care they need when they need it. And under John Swinney’s leadership, we are delivering more appointments and procedures.
“A new app will also be created for the NHS in Scotland to modernise our health service with the rollout starting in Lanarkshire.
“We are focused on increasing capacity, reducing demand, and embracing technology to renew our NHS.
“Labour MSPs shamefully joined the Tories in refusing to back a budget that delivers record investment in our NHS. Meanwhile, their London Labour bosses are opening the door to privatisation and hiking costs with their National Insurance increase.
“Let’s not forget that NHS Lanarkshire is still saddled with a Labour’s PFI bills – which will cost the health board £57.94 million next financial year. So I suppose it is unsurprising that Labour MSPs failed to back this record investment in our NHS.
“The SNP is putting Scotland’s public services first and delivering on the priorities of the people of Scotland.”
